Dr. med. Florian Tran received the Ismar-Boas-Prize for his thesis work "Autophagy and endoplasmic reticulum stress coordinate protective interleukin-22 signals in the intestinal epithelium". The annual prize is awarded by the German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS) for an excellent thesis work on the etiology/pathogenesis of digestive or metabolic diseases and endowed with 5,000 €.
Ismar Boas (1858-1938) was the first German licenced specialist of gastro-intestinal diseases and one of the founders of the DGVS. His work contributed to the understanding of digestion and the diagnostic use of fecal occult blood tests.
