Research Interest

My focus areas are Immuno- and blood group genetics and genomics. The original training in transplantation-relevant HLA diagnostics gave me the tools to describe human blood group polymorphism for applications in transfusion medicine and to study their immunological and population based consequences. I am equally interested in single new gene variants and high throughput diagnostics (for blood donors). Currently, I am chairing the Working Party for “Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology” of the International Society for Blood Transfusion (ISBT).
