Research Interest

My scientific interest is to understand the pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) like ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn´s disease (CD). In particular, I focus on endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident proteins, such as the ORM1-like proteins (ORMDL1, ORMDL2, ORMDL3), whose genes were indentified as a susceptibility locus for inflammatory disorders like asthma and IBD during genome-wide association studies. In this context, I am also investigating the role of ORMDL proteins in the unfolded protein response (UPR) triggered by ER stress.
