Technologies

Our technologies offer the unique opportunity to carry out major experiments to address critical questions in biology and medicine. Technology has always been one of the main drivers of science, or to quote the Nobel prize winner of 2002, Sydney Brenner, “progress in science depends on new techniques, new discoveries and new ideas, probably in that order“. Competitive local technological infrastructures and state-of-the-art computational analysis tools were key to major successes of the Institute. Groups at the IKMB constantly provide data production and analyses for several large-scale international genome/functional genomics consortia ( e.g. International IBD Genetics consortium, 1000 Genomes ICGC-MMML-Seq, ESGI, gEUVADIS, IHEC DEEP). Each technology is embedded in and driven by respective scientific groups and not into core facilities as we believe that in a smaller institute such as the IKMB we can only be competitive if we maintain a close connection between technology development and hypothesis-driven experimentalists and are very open to individual collaborations.
