Research Interest
My main interest lies in the functional characterization of intestinal bowel disease (IBD) risk genes using different cell biological, biochemical and immunological techniques. One special focus is to understand the role of the autophagy gene Atg16L1 in intestinal and systemic inflammatory processes.
Another area of research aims to evaluate the effect of pregnancy on the outcome of intestinal colitis. Our goal is to better understand host-microbiome interactions and its effects on immune cell regulation in the gut and periphery.
