In my daily lab work, I focus on chronic inflammatory processes in the intestinal epithelium. More specifically, I strive to understand the implications of coinciding ER stress and DNA damage for chronic intestinal inflammation and consecutive tumorigenesis. I therefore deploy different cell culture-, organoid- and knock out mouse-models. By pathomechanistically unravelling reciprocal interactions between these two major hallmarks of intestinal inflammation, I aim to pinpoint pharmacological interventions which could potentially ameliorate inflammatory severeness as well as prevent tumor development.
