My work is part of the CRC1182 – ‘Origin and Function of Metaorganisms’ and focuses on aspects influencing the composition of the intestinal microbiota of humans and non-human primates. The questions we try to answer are: What effect do evolutionary factors and lifestyle/westernization have on the microorganism in and on our bodies? What is the influence of host-genetics on microbial community composition? And finally, how does the microbiome change in association with disease and what does actually constitute a healthy microbiota?
